After a long winter, spring is finally back in business and there’s no better time for a fresh start than right now. A big clean is essential to kicking off the beautiful spring season. If you take care of every nook and cranny, you’ll feel an overwhelming sense of pride knowing that you completed a job well done. If you’re not exactly sure where to start, we’re here to give you a comprehensive list of where and what to clean so you can relax and enjoy the spring season.
Let’s start with work done throughout the household. Vacuum any rugs, carpet, and various furniture. Dust just about everything, be sure to use an apparatus with quality material for dusting, such as microfiber. Wash walls, clean your air vents, and clean the inside and outside of your windows. Don’t forget to clean everything around the windows such as window treatments, drapes and/or blinds. Some carpet stains may new carpet, or carpet installation, if so call the experts at 651 Carpets.
In the kitchen, we recommend defrosting and cleaning your freezer. Another overlooked part you need to clean is your refrigerator coils, which are typically on the bottom. Be sure to unplug the refrigerator beforehand. For your cabinets, applying a thin layer of citrus oil with a soft cloth will keep up their appearance. Be sure to clean your oven, your sink drains, and to sanitize your trash can.
In the bathroom, beyond the obvious scrubbing of sinks, showers and toilets, you should throw away all of your expired products and/or cosmetics and re-grout any damaged tile. Hardwood flooring tends to accumulate build-up, so be sure to scrub extra hard in your bathrooms.
In the bedroom, it’s recommended to flip your mattress for even use, now is a great time for that. Change your linens, and clean out your closet and drawers. Be sure to donate things such as any excess clothes or furniture that you may not use anymore.
In your home office, you should go through all of the necessary documents that have circulating in there for months, and if they’re still of great use to you scan them and store them on your computer to save space. Don’t forget your dust buster as well.
Give your garage a good sweeping, and be sure to disinfect to keep smells and animals away. Also, whether it’s in your garage or in a utility room, you should replace your furnace filters to keep your furnace running efficiently.
In the basement, the key is to minimize and organize, don’t let various items build up down there for years. Donate, sell, or throw them away. Whatever you keep, use bins or boxes for organization. From a safety standpoint, you should keep any appliances raised off of the floor in case your home is subject to water damage.
Outside, take care of any burnt out light fixtures and clean your patio furniture for those barbeques you’re going to throw. Also wash down your deck, walkways and porch. Finally, be sure to take care of any dirty or weathered siding around your house. Exterior painting always gives your home a fresh new look.
In your laundry room, clean out your washing machine to prevent odors and extra water build up, and clear out the lint trap in the dryer to prevent a fire.
We hope that you’ve found this list useful, and that you’ll take everything into account so you can enjoy the spring season even more. A clean house, a clear sky, and clear thoughts. It doesn’t get much better than that.
